Welcome
I am a historian of the medieval Mediterranean, with a particular focus on inter-cultural and inter-religious communication—especially that between Muslims, Christian, and Jews—from the seventh through twelfth centuries. My first book examined patterns of communication that linked Sicily to other Mediterranean regions during the early and central Middle Ages. I have also published on human migration and on the global Middle Ages. My current project examines Muslim-Christian interactions across early medieval southern Italy. I also teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate history courses at the University of New Mexico, where I am an associate professor in the Department of History.
